this and that
Recently one of my game sites introduced Tablut to their lineup & I've become obsessed with it. Easy to learn, with white having only 12 rooks(castles) and black having 8 rooks & a king, who must make it to one of the dark corner squares to win. White must block it and take all black pieces to win. But there's a myriad of strategies employed. This game predates chess, but is less complicated, so I may be able to improve. If you'd like to play it, just sign up for free at www.itsyourturn.com & look for my user name(same as here) if you'd like me for an opponent.
Tuesday was my local book discussion group and several members had lunch at IHOP before the meeting. Despite the restaraunt not being busy, it took a half hour for them to make pancakes & a couple omelettes for us. We had to rush through our meals(I brought half of mine home) and were still late for our meeting. Setting the luncheon time an hour & a half before the meeting should've given us enough time. Sloppy service, is what it was.Though about half the group disliked the book, Zadie Smith's "On Beauty", it still led to a lively discussion. I thought it was a good book, some of the characters I really liked & I was pleased to hear others also mention which were their favorite people in it. The book had been my suggestion, after seeing the author interviewed on Charlie Rose & reading good reviews.
It's been really cold & snowy this week in Cleveland. Temperatures a little below freezing & lots of wind. Today it was picking up the snow & swirling it around like mini tornadoes. Lake effect snow has been plentiful too, a type that is created when moisture passes over Lake Erie & falls in a certain pattern on land. Mainly big flakes falling thickly.
Because of that, I keep avoiding going out into such weather, delaying my trip to the library, though I've only 1 book left. But Rufus needs lettuce & I need a prescription, so I'll have to gather my courage & venture out, bundled up like a short snowperson.

Both my male dogs are neutered and as far as animals go, I am well aware just how many animals are in shelters. I used to work/run an animal abuse clinic, have worked in shelters and animal hospitals. I know the dangers and I am a huge advocate for spay/neuter. I was toying with the idea of breeding Chi's, but hadn't fully de up m mind. As far as adopting pets, most all the the animals I have ever had in my life came from rescue shelters. Fizzy, Cortez & Kibbles are the exceptions. I'll keep you up-to-date on what my final decision is. As for my friend, she just had her dog bred the other day.
I think I might start a book club in my new cafe when it finally opens. You can suggest me books then
I hate to go out in weather, too.
What did you like about the book?
thanks for stopping by...come on over anytime!
I'msorry to say, since I had gotten a pc I don't read like I used to and I am beginning to find I miss it a lot. Thanks for your kind comments and prayers for my aunt.
I think I heard your weather is going to get worse. Guess yesterday while you wait at IHOP, oh wait that was today.
I don't know what you said at another bloggers but I just don't think there is any excuse in the world to breed dogs and cats and birds for that matter. Boy wouldn't the clubs hate me?
I would love to be in a book club. I visited with my daughter when I was in South Bend. She is in a club with the ladies from Notre Dame and I was fascinated...
I usually read a couple books at a time unless it's a quickie beach read and then I just read it and get done with it.
What is your local library?. I worked for the Cleveland Public Library...First as a page when I was in High School(that was South Brooklyn Branch) than as a clerk as South Branch. Then got my degree in LS at CWRU and worked as a children's librarian at Fairview Park. When the kids were growing up, we trekked down to West Park Branch. Florida libraries don't even compare to Cleveland Public or Cuyahoga CY.
Thanks for your kind words...I do feel a bit better. Well enough to sit at the computer!
ryc: They are only pebbles metaphorically. They are because I made them!
And I'm definitely NOT a feminist. That is the philosophy of unfairness, of 'me too'. Why am I going to want to compete in a man's world on equal terms with men on the playing field they laid out under their rules? You ever play cowboys and indians with boys? Even if they let you have a gun, you can only fire it when they say you can.. Nah, I'm with Ted Turner on this one....
