  • disappointing day

           Aug

The show on Sunday didn't go very well. I only sold a pack of notecards for $6. The room was pleasant, diffused daylight falling on a parquet floor, but there was  very low attendance.  It rained in the morning, which was probably to blame, but even when the sun came out later, there were stretches when there was only crafters in the room. Not enough variety of merchandise, there were so many people selling jewelry, it seemed almost every other table. There was also a bunch of booths selling manufactured goods such as Tupperware & Pampered Chef. Promoters ought to know this constitutes an insult to those of us who spend time & money hand making things using actual talent. Plus, it doesn't even fall under the "craft" description.
In the afternoon there were a number of people who stopped & paid lavish compliments to my work & expressed interest in future shows, but it didn't translate into sales. But none of the crafters I spoke to did well, most didn't make back the $35 entry fee. I know it was a first time show, so there was low expectations, but it was still frustrating when it happened. I did meet some nice people, both fellow crafters & shoppers and had a yummy fruit smoothie, so I wasn't totally depressed about the day.

  • I'd been wondering how you did.
Have you considered opening an 'etsy' shop?

  • What a disappointing day that must have been, with all the work of setting up and taking down to put away.   I was fortunate, several months ago.  I'd gone to Peoria to visit a friend.  She had a friend who makes greeting cards and insisted on GIVING me a big bunch!!  She does such nice work.  When I send one, I almost always get a phone call in response.

Just wanted to come by and say "Hi."   I don't remember seeing you on Xanga before, and thank you for stopping by my site.  GrannyHummingbird

  • Oh I love the sunflower and the swans! You do beautiful work. Don't give up-you will do better next time

  • Oh, Jacks. I'm distressed on your behalf...what a letdown.  I know you, though, you'll be going on to the next show before I could blink.  You're so persistent!  (I see my favorite on the wall back there - the bird on branches! :)   Are your notecards like small prints of your work - as in printed off by machine from your work - or are they hand-drawn and not printed off?

I totally agree.  What on earth business does something like TUPPERWARE have doing anywhere near an arts & crafts show?!

  • The tupperware at an art fair is something that would be in a surreal short story. Art is a big investment and personal too. It takes a few looks to know what suits you and what would be just right for you. So the people who said they would stop by next time just might be right. Consider it a day of advertising perhaps.

  • How utterly sad, tupperware etc is not crafts! Are there no rules there?

  • Hope your having a awsome Labor Day! God Bless.
