  • 25 Random Things

This is my list for the latest fad sweeping the internet, though it's waning now. I'm always unfashionably late, this time because I've lived such a boring life that it took forever to come up with enough items. I posted this on my Facebook page, too, but some xanga pals are not on there, so I'm cross pollinating.

    1) When I was younger, I wanted to marry the painter Vincent van Gogh.

    2) I once sang with gospel singer Mahalia Jackson at a concert when I was a toddler. My mother tried to shush me as we sat in the audience, but Ms. Jackson saw her, stopped the show & told my mother “Let her sing!” and was pleased when I joined in as she continued the song.

    3) In my late teens & early twenties, I was so lonely I often considered suicide.

    4) Though I love to play chess, I’m absolutely awful at it.

    5) If time travel was a possibility, I’d want to go back to an epoch and see live dinosaurs, preferably brontosaurus & triceratops. One of the carnivores would probably make me a snack, but it might be worth it as long as I’d see some of the other species.

    6) I like animals better than humans. Animals are not judgmental or looks conscious & reciprocate kindness. If I was as popular with men as I am with animals, I’d never sit home another Friday night.

    7) My name is Jackie & I’m a bookaholic. Not only do I read about 200 books a year, I also buy as many as I can afford, which means lots of used books stores, outlets & library sales. I really need more bookshelves.

    8) When I was 9, I was a finalist in a city wide art contest depicting home improvement. I won tickets to a community theatre's production of Snow White, where I was frightened of the Wicked Witch.

    9) An article about me & my art was in Animal Fair magazine in their Fall 2004 issue. My moment of celebrity.

    10) I was in the audience when Peter Gabriel’s video for “Biko” was filmed.

    11) Ever since I can remember, I’ve wanted a German Shepherd/Alsatian, but something has always thwarted me.

    12) I cry easily and at everything, not only sad books & movies, but news stories, acts of kindness & even dog food commercials.

    13) Vivid nightmares have plagued me my entire life.

    14) I’m against most wars, but like many soldier-ish items such as knights, nutcrackers & swords. Don’t know what that’s about.

    15) I once stroked a live tiger.

    16) I’ve never been drunk or done any drugs, yet believe pot ought to be legalized & treated like liquor.

    17) When I was a teenager, I ran up the steps of the Philadelphia Art Museum like in the Rocky movies. I could never do that now!

    18) I long to live in a little house surrounded by trees & flowers, with a skylit studio to paint in.

    19) I’m really, really bad at math. Worse than you think.

    20) Doing mazes is one of my hobbies, though it’s hard to find books of them.

    21) I like quiet; no Tv or radio as background noise, it’s irritating & disrupts concentration.

    22) I like snow. I enjoy being out in it, especially when it’s falling.

    23) Though I’m not very feminine, I am when it comes to movies, with costume dramas & chick flicks being what I like to watch.

    24) Some things I’d like to do before I die is: ride on a dog sled, have a hawk land on my fist and see the ocean.

    25) I’m a life long liberal Democrat tree hugger.

  • You've never seen the ocean??
I can't imagine living away from it.

    Thanks for sharing!

  • I can relate to the last one. I don't know how liberal I am though. I am a tree hugger and find it quite fascinating a certain lady I know bought a car to be green yet her hobby is using a lot of paper to make things.

I'm on facebook now. Not able to figure out why. I don't do 25 things, I'd bore people to death.

  • Jacks, I love your list! Tells me quite a bit about a person who normally stays v.private.  I can identify with your feelings of loneliness, the love of animals, and my dreams are normally nightmares (usually- Searching for something I cannot find; Someone is chasing me; Someone is betraying me.)  My 25 list is up on my site, last post.
(sigh) Alas, I've had to pare down the books here.  I had enough to rewall the house.

  • P.S., You're an artist: How about making your own mazes, and then putting them away for a long time, so that you forget the working of them? Then you can work them.  I used to make mazes and crossword puzzles for my little brother to work as he sat in the pew in church.

  • Would you prefer dinosaurus or Van Gogh ?
I see a German shepherd on your side bar .
Thanks for all of this informations about you , Jackie .

How is Rufus , Now ?
    In friendship
    Michel

  • We have a lot in common, especially the reading & tree hugging.

But, at the risk of seeming pedantic, they're not called brontosaurus any more -- they've been reclassified to apatasaurus (apatasauri?) The things you learn when you have a bright grandson who's nuts about dinosaurs! I would love to go back there too, but I'd also like to go back to the time that the Americas were being peopled. And also to Victorian & Edwardian periods -- I love those books & movies too.
