The winner of the logo contest was announced last Tuesday evening & I came in 2nd place! Yay! This logo is at the bottom of each item by the "Add to Cart" button.I also get a $50 shopping spree on the site (www.squirrelstore.com), so altogether, I'm thrilled. The winner did a very professional looking one in a circle using Photoshop with one of her own pictures. It deserved to win, so I'm completely happy with the outcome.

Rufus is now on phenobarbitol after having  more seizures on Friday. The vet called the prescription in to a human pharmacy that afternoon & I squirt the cherry flavored liquid into his mouth twice a day. He doesn't like the taste, so he wiggles around a lot, making it a challenge. But if it prevents those frightening seizures, it's worth all the trouble. The vet said it might make him drowsy, but it's not making him excessively sleepy so far. I do hope it gets easier to give it to him as time goes on.

  • Happy Spring!

Spring officially arrived last week & the weather has been milder, but it's still not what I'd call warm. However, the buzards(turkey vultures) arrived back in Ohio on March 15th, as they do every year. While some folks think they are ugly, I think they are beautiful in flight with their wide wingspan soaring on the thermals.

I've been busy with lots of art projects. This past weekend was the deadline for a logo contest for www.squirrelstore.com & of course, I entered. The winner will be announced this week sometime. I forgot about the prize, because I just wanted to explore the ideas I had for it. Whether I win or not, it was a fun project.
When I finished the logo, I started a small painting of a chambered nautilus for an online art show about Deep Sea Creatures. They are weird looking animals & harder to draw than expected, but I'm painting mine on purple mulberry paper. It should go quickly, because I'm just leaving the paper, with it's strands of fiber, as the background, to indicate watery depths. Many of the other entries are of mermaids, so I'll add some realism to the show. The deadline for that show is March, so it my picture needs to be done soon.

Still haven't heard from the vet about her consultation with the other vet, which was supposed to happen last Monday. I've written her 2 emails, though I know she only checks hers about once a week. Rufus had another seizure yesterday, so I'd really like to get him on meds. If I don't hear from her in a day or so, I'll call. I don't understand all these delays with her, though I think she's a good vet otherwise.

  •   Happy St. Patrick's Day!

  • vet tests

You know that Rufus has been having seizures since January. On Thursday, I took him to the vet for x-rays & blood tests, which he had to be sedated for. It was nerve wracking, since piggies can have a bad reaction to anesthesia, but he didn't have any problems. However, the vet couldn't get any blood for tests. She couldn't reach the veins anywhere she tried, there was too much skin etc. She said that blood is seldom taken from guinea pigs. The x-rays show a couple spots near his hips that might be kidney stones, but they are very tiny. She is going to discuss everything with another vet on Monday (tomorrow) to see what our next steps are. I'm to continue giving him pancake syrup, since she said his glucose was still low.I'm going to get a different kind of syrup at Target, because it has a higher sugar content, but I don't know if it will really make a difference.
So, I don't really know anything more than before, except that he might have tiny kidney stones.I am hoping that she has some ideas for treatment, because the syrup isn't preventing the seizures & I think that something ought to.

  • my mom's birthday

Been having a lot of migraines lately, so haven't been thinking clearly enough to write anything. Then my mother's birthday was today & I had to finish shopping for it yesterday. It was so cold I felt like running to the car whenever I left a store, but there was no snow until this morning.I always bundle up in multiple layers with thermies & wear a hat with ear flaps(so alluring), so I tolerate the cold relatively well. But yesterday it was colder than usual, with a biting wind. Brrr!
My mother is bah humbug about birthdays & even the floral bouquet I got her didn't perk her up much. But she agreed to let me treat her to dinner at her choice, Applebee's, where she had a spicy cheeseburger & fries. Our waiter was a very nice & wimpy guy named Ben, who was quite pleasant & even amusing. I find wimpy guys highly attractive, so I was pleased. Perhaps he caught the appreciative glint in my eye, since he was attentive to our table & we got good service. My mother enjoyed her meal & later, her gifts(word search puzzle books, embroidery kit, candy) so I think it was an Ok day for her.
My sister had to work, so couldn't join us, but I hope she plans on celebrating the day another time. I haven't talked to her in awhile, since she got angry at me last time we spoke & flounced off in a huff. She's anti-birthday anyways, & pouting isn't making it better. Sometimes I get tired of her moodiness and this is one of them.
