Rufus update
Things are not going well with Rufus, I cannot get his glucose to stabilize & he keeps having seizures, especially in the morning. I'm feeding him Critical Care 3 times a day, plus the dextrose, but it's still happening. He's been home from the animal hospital for a week & still not able to eat solid food.He mostly sits in a corner not moving much. Usually after the dextrose, he will rally a bit & try walking around. Earlier in the week he was eager to eat & reached for the syringe, but now he tries to avoid it, possibly because his mouth is sore or he's losing interest in food.
I called his vet this afternoon to see what else I could do & she gave me some super duper dextrose(50%) to give him 4 times daily. He does perk up right after. She thinks he has Pancreatic tumors, which is causing too much insulin to be in his body & that the worsening of his symptoms is because it's grown larger or spread. If the new dextrose doesn't work, she said I'm going to have to make that difficult decision early next week. She was understanding about how hard it is & I agreed that I needed to have the courage to do what is best for him, but I'm dreading it....

I'm very sorry to hear this. I know how difficult this is for you and I'll keep you and Rufus in my thoughts.
Of course you are dreading it. That is something we all seem to face sooner or later. I even took my cockatiel to the vet to euthanize as he was suffering trying to hang on for me. Rufus may be pulling back because he feels so bad. You will find the courage.
I'm so sorry, Jackie.
