  • hurrah for Harvest Fest

My first fall craft show, Harvest Fest, was Saturday the 9th and was a good day. I did better than expected, squirrel greeting cards were the big sellers. But I also sold an eagle print, which was the first in awhile. Most people stopped and looked, even if they didn't buy, so crafters didn't feel ignored. All of the people from the church running the show was extremely nice, even the teens, one of which helped me carry stuff in from my car. People passed by numerous times throughout the day offering vendors coffee, hot chocolate(yummy) and snacks. The handsome pastor even stopped & talked for a bit, which was a nice little thrill. Turns out he went to the same Lutheran high school that I did & is sending his kids there as well.
There was a nice animal show from "Outback Roy", who was very good with the various animals & had a nice way with the kids too.I especially liked when he put the alligator on the floor & left it walk a bit, while holding its tail. The gator looked very prehistoric! The weather was beautiful, so they had music, picnic food & hay rides outside. The hay wagon was pulled by a pickup truck, not horses, so I was disappointed about that, even though I didn't go on it. I could see out into the hall by the sanctuary and watched the reflections from the stained-glass windows change as the sun moved through the sky. It was very soothing.
Because the entry form said the tables might be smaller than other shows, I only took one set of steps to display framed pictures. It left more room to spread out the note cards, magnets & other things and actually gave a better feel to my table, more open & inviting. I think I'll use that same display idea at future shows. My sister, who came to help me take down, said the "wall" of pictures might be intimidating to viewers. Since I sell more small stuff at craft shows, it would be more practical to feature those more prominently on my table. It will also be easier to transport & be faster to set up. It's great when something accidental like this turns out to inspire good ideas.
That idea has reinvigorated me and I'm looking forward to what I can do with the new display in the Nov. and Dec. craft shows. And after such a positive experience at Harvest Fest, I'll probably add it to my yearly schedule as well.
