I hope that, amid all of the picnics, store sales & other activities that people remember the point of Labor Day, which wasn't to celebrate hedge funds, the free market or one's stock portfolio, but the hard working people who actually get things done.

Those that still have jobs that is. I guess I'm a strange person because I don't think it is the Presidents responsibility to find work for the unemployed. After all business are the ones that send the jobs out of the country.
I agree. Though I think a president can promote policies that help or hinder the job market. For instance, when Republicans give tax breaks to those who ship their operations overseas.
The expression ' workers Day " would be more appropriate .
