Besides working on art projects, I went to a tiny local Irish festival last weekend and at the end of Feb. my sister & I attended our winter antique show. I'll write about the latter after I've downloaded the pics from my camera.
It was my mother's birthday on March 3rd, and my sister had a headache, so couldn't join in as I tried making a nice celebration for our mom. Besides some nice gifts and candy, I also got a takeout cheeseburger dinner from Applebee's, which she likes a lot. At the end of the day, she said it had been "great", which was unusual, as she is a person who hates birthdays, and not just her own.
My own birthday was on Sunday, the 9th and was just OK. At least there was no arguments, which happens sometimes. I did get some really nice presents: shirts, books (including the "Behind The Scenes of Downton Abbey" one) and a teapot with infuser for loose tea. My favorite gift was probably the new Daily Sketchbook with each page divided in half to make a small sketch each day. Some artists do this with paintings, but I work too slow for that. But a pencil sketch is doable for me. While I do work on my art nearly everyday, it's usually just to make progress on a project. This new sketchbook challenges me to start and complete a drawing each day. I've decided I can do anything nature oriented, which gives me lots of subjects. I started using the new sketchbook that very night, doing a couple sketches of Dora, my guinea pig, to start things off.
On Friday before my birthday, my sister & I spent a few hours browsing at Barnes & Noble. I always feel like backing up a U-Haul truck and loading up any book that looks interesting, but of course I can't. lol We looked at quite a variety of books, including atlases and history books and checked out the magazines, which seem to increase in number each time I visit. It's remarkable how many niche subjects there are magazines for and I wonder just how many people are interested in certain obscure subjects.
Since last Thursday, the weather has been milder and a couple of days it felt like a heatwave. The huge piles of snow in parking lots have melted considerably, so now there's room to put more snow, which is forecast to arrive beginning tonight. The last time a storm was anticipated, it wasn't as severe as was predicted, which was a good thing. But I know there is still some winter left, which means more snow. It makes me worry about the birds which are starting to arrive back in my area. Yesterday, I saw the yellow flash of a male goldfinch by the driveway fence & hope he and his mate are finding enough to eat. I know spring will eventually arrive, and hopefully they can hold out until it does.
