I didn't realize it had been so long since I wrote. Eek. In early June, my foot became infected from a spider bite & since my regular dr. was out of town, with no one covering for her, I had a hard time getting treatment for it. I didn't want to go to the hospital emergency room with an itchy foot amid the accident victims & heart attacks, but the swelling redness and burning was only getting worse. I went to one of those "Minute Clinics" at a drugstore, only to be told that they couldn't treat me because of my diabetes. Another day I tried an urgent care clinic, which though crowded, eventually treated me and gave me some meds. Even after I finished the antibiotics, the foot was still swelling a bit, but the infection finally receded and it seems mostly back to normal again.  The swelling was so bad that I couldn't get a shoe on, so there was a couple weeks of being house bound, making me miss the lilacs and irises blooming, as well as duckling time at a nearby pond. Spring is my favorite season, and was late this year, so I was sorry not to see some of my favorite things of the season.
Staying in did give me more time to work on my art and I completed a number of projects & started others. The Prismacolor drawings of the musk ox and a sparrow sitting on autumn branches got finished and entered into a local juried show. (The results won't be announced till later this month.) I also got two pictures underway for the Cold-blooded Creations Show. One is a turtle scene, which is all done but for the turtles themselves. And the other is a small picture of a salamander on a rock in a stream, which is giving me lots of trouble, mainly because I'm using a new medium, Derwent Watercolor Pencils, which are really tricky.I'm hoping to get both pictures done for the show in August.
One of the fun things I got to do was go to an outdoor arts festival with my sister. The weather was perfect and there was a lot of variety in the arts and crafts for sale. Though we couldn't afford to buy, it was enjoyable browsing and chatting with the crafters. My sister was disappointed that kettle popcorn was not being sold this time, as she found it very tasty in previous years.
We are hoping to go to our favorite antique show on July 20th if we are both feeling well. It's outdoors, so the weather will hopefully cooperate, too. Last year my bronchitis was lingering, so I was unable to accompany my sister. I'd also like to go to some nearby nature centers, one of which has a new aquarium section. The county fair is coming up next month & I'd love to see it, having not been there for several years because of my health. My summer plans are always local and low key and much less than most people do. But I would like to get a few pleasant activities in before the cold and dark of winter returns.
