  • new chipmunk painting

    chipmunk, dark
I've downloaded a batch of photos, which includes all of the framed artwork I did at the end of last year & will be posting them in the coming weeks. First up is my newest chipmunk painting, a little rodent I've painted many times before. This is very small 8 inches by 6 inches & done in acrylic. That's a trillium blossom next to it, which is the reason I titled the picture "Spring Chippy".
My sister said the picture is way too dark & when I countered with the fact of some of Rembrandt's works being very dark, too, dismissed it. An aquaintance told me that chipmunks & other wildlife are supposed to blend into the background for safety's sake, so it was appropriate. I put it into a dark walnut frame & it's just the right size for the front of my display, where it won't block anything. I'd like to do another painting of the same size of a mouse or other small animal with a flower too, to make a set, but that will be some time in the future.

  • On Friday I began coughing a lot & today, I'm just miserable. My head isn't really stuffed up, so I doubt it's a regular cold. It's probably bronchitis again. Oh boy! My mom has had a couple chest infections since Christmas and I'm wondering if I caught something from her. I'm drinking hot tea & taking some cough gel caps that the doctor gave me last summer for the cough. It seems to help a little. If it's not mending by mid-week, I'm calling the dr., as I don't want it to drag on for months like it often does.
The weather has been mild, though it's grown colder as last week wore on and now Cleveland is in the grips of a snowstorm. We are out of practice with the few we've had this year. This morning the wind was whipping the snow into mini-tornadoes in the driveway, which was startling. There are also drifts across the grass & against the fence. It looked as if it would be difficult to walk in & the cars were going slow. I like snow better when it's the kind that sticks to trees and makes everything look like a Christmas card.
Hmmm, my mug is empty, time for another cup of tea....
