  • February update

    nuthatch up straight
Dora has been doing pretty well, though there's been a few bad days. She's eating, drinking and active, still bright eyed and alert, mostly busy with piglet activities. She takes naps often, but that's understandable with her age & health. I got her a new water bottle that sets higher on the wall, so it's easier for her to get a drink. And though I keep her hay rack filled, I also put little piles of hay on her floor so that it's easy to get to if she doesn't feel like stretching up. She's still not eating many kibbles(pellets), but she eats all of her veggies and other food, so I think she's still getting a nutritional balance. I'm pleased and happy that she's still with me and is as well as she is.

My sister and I went to the winter antique show in mid-February and we had fun. There was some new vendors there with different sorts of items, though we missed some of the previous sellers. My sister got some old coins and buttons and I got a huge bag of vintage sea shells, which I will use for drawings. I also bought a couple Inexpensive small animal figurines from England. As always, I took a lot of photos, but haven't downloaded them yet. When I do, I'll post some of them here.

Another place I went was the library's used book sale at the beginning of the month. Since I'm a bookaholic, you can imagine how thrilled I am at this event, especially since the books only cost a couple dollars and paperbacks are even cheaper. This year I bought 14 books and 4 DVD's, I needed to borrow a library cart to wheel them out to my car! Most of the books were animal books, some large sized ones, too, of birds and African wildlife. There were a few other nature books and a couple on history, including one by Barbara Tuchman, my favorite historian and another on Knights, which I've wanted for several years. Library book sales are a treasure trove for me!

I finished a pen & ink drawing of a cheetah. It was originally a demonstration piece for craft shows, but after the December show, there wasn't much left to do, so I went ahead and completed it. Now I'm working on a drawing of a little nuthatch bird on a snowy tree. That's one in the photo at the top of this post. I'm using some new pencils that are like regular graphite pencils, but have tints of color added and can be used wet or dry. They are perfect for doing tree bark! The picture is about half done at this point and working out so far.

There's a craft show the last Saturday in march that I'm thinking of being in. Now that Dora is eating mostly on her own, I'd feel safe leaving her for part of the day. The show runs from 10 am till 3 pm, so it wouldn't be too long. The show is in a nearby suburb and I did well in their spring show last year, that's why I'd like to try again. I need to send the entry form in, which will probably be within the next week. I don't do outdoor shows and when nicer weather arrives, that what most shows are, so I need to take advantage of the indoor ones in Spring.
